At the beginning there was a dream. Dream about breeding beautifull Basset Hounds. We have tried to do our best to learn everything about Bassets. We got first contacts and literature and later we decided to import a Basset Hound from "the West", since the breed was quite popular here, but due to minimum possibilities to have free contacts to abroad in communist time, the breed needed urgent refreshment.
1988: IVA and her very first Bassets – on the right the female ARABELA OLIVER, on the left the puppy male BARNABASCH VON DER KATZENKLAUSE, import Austria
As you can see from pictures on this page, we had one more member of our family each year:
1986 - Basset Hound Arabela Oliver
1987 - son Honza
1988 - Basset Hound Barnabasch v.d. Katzenklause
1989 - daughter Eva
1990 - Basset Hound Berta Burke
1991 - Basset Hound Benoit´s Twyla Tanyana
and it was just beginning....
1986: ARABELA OLIVER
We have learned a lot with our first Basset Hound bitch. She was tricolor, her name was Arabela Oliver (born 1986) and she came from czech breeded, who bred her austrian import to polish male. She was nice in type, with beautifull head and expression, good pigment, but her front was disaster, so we decide not to breed on her.
Neither the second Basset Hound, a male Barnabasch v.d.Katzenklause (brn 1988), import form Austria, didn´t have correct front, but his pedigree was very interesting. From the sire-side he brought american blood line Tal-E-Ho´s , which was very valuable at this time in Europe.
1988: FANDA AND IVA with their baby son HONZA and first Basset Hound ARABELA OLIVER, the little puppy is BARNABASCH V.D. KATZENHKLAUSE
1988: BARNABASCH V.D. KATZENHKLAUSE and son Honza
1989: ARABELA OLIVER and BARNABASCH V.D. KATZENHKLAUSE
And the family is complete... at least tiill the next year 1990!
BARNABASCH V.D. KATZENHKLAUSE
1990 - BARNABASCH V.D. KATZENHKLAUSE
We have longed for a basset bitch from Tal-E-Ho´s line, as a partner for our Barnabasch. We have managed to buy one adult bitch - a daughter of Leu v.Herzogtum Juelich, who was a german import do Poland. Her name was Berta Burke (born 1988) and she was near according to our ideal picture of a Basset Hound. She was successfull on shows, but we have never been lucky to have a puppy from her!
1990 - BERTA BURKE
1991 - BERTA BURKE - excellent 1st, CAC in working class in concurrence of 9 females (judge D.Poláková) on the first Club Show in Prague.
1991 - BERTA BURKE and son HONZA / BERTA BURKE - in internat.show in Brno, October 1991: BERTA won exc. 1st, CAC, CACIB, Winner of Brno, Best of Breed and Best of Group under judge Mr.K.H.LUX from Germany (kennel LA MANZANERA, the club board member BHC Germany). It was probaly for the first time in former Czechoslovakia, that there was a competition in groups according to F.C.I. classification - and the winner was our Basset!!
A brend new history began tha the end of 1991, when dannish breeders Anne-Therese Borch and René Bendtsen, brough us their puppy bitch - Benoit´s Twyla Tanyana.
